You Are But a Youth
By Pastor R. Kielley

"And David said to Saul, Let no man's heart fail because of him; thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine. And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him: for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth."                  (1 Samuel 17:32-33)

David was ready to kill Goliath the first time he hard him defy his God.  "Let no man's heart fail because of him; thy servant will go and fight with the Philistine."  God had empowered David to slay a lion and a bear, and he believed this was going to be another sure victory.

Saul being his elder, and his King, was afraid of Goliath and embarrassed by David's willingness to do what he should have done. He masked his fear by saying of David, "You are but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth."   When the youth of this generation declare themselves to be "young adults" accepting both responsibilities and privileges, it's also time to "step up" for God!

Why can't the youth teach and preach the word?  Why can't they teach a Home Bible Study to their peers, and others of all ages?  why can't they minister in great numbers, or "beyond the numbers" of older adults?  Is it because they are afraid of Goliaths, or have agreed with Saul?  I am challenging this "High Energy, Great Potential" Generation of youth to get on the offensive and not wait in the wings.

The youth of our day are troubled.  Suicides are at an all-time high.  They are searching for answers and living in fear. David took the offensive and after he stood up to Goliath all of Israel chased the Philistines.

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."  Is this adults only?  "Great is he that is in me." is this only after 35 years of age?  I believe we have received "power" after that the Holy Ghost came upon us!

I remember teaching a Home Bible Study of Youth and adults (over 20 people in number) at the age of 23!  At 28 years of age I began pastoring.  I don't say this boastfully, but to encourage the Davids of this Generation.  Being a youth is your advantage~

"Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity."   (1 Timothy 4:12)
